A Public Display of Affection

Every February 14th, for the past 14 years now, I’ve stopped not just to celebrate Valentine’s Day or my wedding anniversary or the annual overflowing of drugstore shelves with Russell-Stover’s chocolate. Every February 14th for the past 14 years, I’ve stopped to celebrate the smartest move I’ve ever made – asking Carla to be my wife.

I hope you don’t mind that I’m getting all warm and fuzzy, which I know is a far cry from my gruff, strong and silent Fred Williamson-like exterior, but I can’t help myself. I get very giddy (..and not just on Valentine’s day) when I think about how blessed I am.

You see, over these past five decades, I have made some phenomenal blunders. There aren’t enough terabytes of storage on this site to go down the list of personal, financial and career screw ups I’ve made. Fortunately none of these really matter because they are wonderfully offset by perhaps the best thing that’s ever happened to me – marrying my best friend Carla.

I’m keeping it short and sweet this week. I just wanted to share a public display of affection. Besides, it’s Valentine’s day and I don’t want my humble ramblings taking any of you away from doing something romantic.
